    The Fishing Hole

    Medium: Acrylic on Gallery Canvas

    Size: 24”x36”

Ascension Day is an important holiday for the Amish, held on the 40th day after Easter Sunday. Whether picnicking, visiting relatives, or attending church services, for the Amish community Ascension Day is a time for family, faith, and reflection. It’s a day of spiritual renewal, and hope. The traditional Amish way of celebrating this holiday is through communal meals or attending services at local churches some choose the opportunity to enjoy a quiet relaxing day at home. Families gather and head into the woods or countryside for a picnic. During this time, they take the opportunity to relax and spend time together as a family. Young people enjoy the chance to mingle, laugh, and play softball or volleyball or go fishing. While traveling through Lancaster Pennsylvania I came across this scene of seven boys spending part of their Ascension Day fishing next to a Grist Mill.

  • Artist: Anita Pistor

Smiling Poppies, 18x24x1.3”, oil on canvas

This impressionist floral painting was uncharacteristically painted in the “Chiaroscuro” technique. It was also a challenge because the colourful details would show any imperfection against the cherry black background. But, in the end, it turned out, to be a happy meadow scene.

    About Artist:

Anita's colourful collection of original oil paintings ranges widely from realism to impressionism to abstract. Her international award-winning works include "Signature Florals" as well as landscapes, still lifes, wildlife, portraiture and organic abstract. Her art is never designed to express social statements, but rather in her words, “to enhance your environment and make you smile”.
