Marian Drouillard Alcohol Ink Artist

Born and raised in Cornwall, Ontario, Marian graduated with Honours from a 3 Year Visual & Creative Arts Program with a Major in Graphic Design at St. Lawrence College. Her major strength was illustration, and over the next couple of decades, would create pen and ink illustrations for a wide number of projects.

In her early 20’s she moved to Windsor and her career took a huge detour; she used her drawing and illustration skills to study drafting to become more employable. This opened up new doors in Civil Technology, and eventually her drafting experience led her to the Engineering Department at City Hall.

Years of continued education, Urban Geography at the U of W, as well as countless computer and technical studies at St Clair College, moved her into the digital GIS (Geographic Informations Systems) realm of maps and data. She also developed, wrote and helped teach a 6 Credit Post Graduate Certificate Program, GIS in a Municipal  Setting, for St Clair College, Windsor Campus.

Little wonder that when she retired as Manager of the Geomatics Division in 2017, aerial map views, cross sections of the earth, and map-like black outlines, would be a focus of her art once she discovered alcohol ink as her new medium.

Marian’s  approach to fluid, highly pigmented colours, along with the use of acrylic paint pens, have allowed her to create unique images that capture the imagination. Marian loves to teach ink basics through small, and sometimes not so small, Alcohol Ink Workshops for both Youth and Adults.

Participants can choose to create unique ceramic coaster sets, ceramic trivets, paintings on specialized painting like Yupo paper, as well as creations on glass in a frame. More recently, workshops to create designs on glass ornaments and even lightbulbs have been added to the offerings.
