    Magnolia in a Japanese Vase

    Oil on Canvas

    36 x48 inches

Curator’s pick: A top favourite of the ACL team.

I had to capture my magnolia blooms. But so difficult to contain. I set them on my drafting board and incorporated the picture window in the background and our Persian style carpet. An old bowl from China town hold some faded blooms.

  • Artist: Marian Drouillard

    Mexican Cone Flower

mixed media on wood board; includes acrylic pens and acrylic paint, 12”x 12”

This one mixes the colours of Mexico with the shape of a Canadian Cone Flower in full bloom. While my own garden cone flowers are yellow and grow to almost 7’ high, yet this one exists only in my head and its details and colours are sheer artist fabrication!

Flowers don’t worry about how they are going to bloom.

They just open up and turn toward the light and that is what makes them beautiful.

    Thirsty Tulip

    oil on canvas, 10” x 8” x 0.75”

“Thirsty Tulip” is an original oil painting in high contrasting and saturated colors in the style of “Chiaroscuro”. First observed, it appears to be black and white with green. Zoomed in, and in real life, glazes of crimson red show up on the black background and greens, oranges and pinks on the white flower.

    Smoke Tree Flower Bouquet

    Oil on Canvas

    36 x 48 inches

When my wild Smoke Tree bloomed it was such a gift I ran out side to cut some and make a bouquet. I also clipped some branches from our Beech tree and some lovely stalks of Penstemon. It was quite the arrangement. It barely fit the canvas.

    Bountiful Bouquet

    Mixed Media Collage

    12”x16”

Created with a mixture of gel plate printed papers and detailed with acrylic paint, ephemera, and stenciling, this art piece was such a fun one to create! The vibrant colors and the intricate details add depth and character to the overall composition. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of layering different elements to bring this piece to life, and this artwork speaks to the vibrancy and energy of the creative process.

    Meadow Five

    oil on canvas, 10” x 10 x 1.5”

    Remember Me Always

    Digitally Altered Photograph

This rose was in a bouquet from my mother's service. It was delicate, soft pink and beautiful. For me, turning it into black and white, with the focus made stronger by a pure black background, made it more evocative and emotional. In that monochromatic stillness, the essence of the rose seemed to intensify, its petals telling a story of love and loss in a silent yet powerful way.

    Daffy

    oil on canvas, 10” x 8” x 0.75”

“Daffy” is an original floral oil painting in high contrasting and saturated colors in the style of “Chiaroscuro”. Look closely to see the glazes of crimson red in the background which supports beautifully the cheerful white daffodil .

    Soft Petals

    Watercolour and Ink

    10”x10”

Using a photograph I took as a reference, this artwork was created by quickly dropping in areas of colour and then defining the elements of the bouquet with a pen. The delicate strokes brought life to the petals and leaves, making them appear vibrant and full of movement. The combination of bold pen lines and gentle watercolors adds depth and dimension to the composition, capturing the beauty and elegance of the floral arrangement.
