  • Meditation by the River, photography, Lupita Amaya G.

A bold and bright red and pink veil gracefully dances in the wind as its vibrant colors catch the eye of onlookers. Amidst this mesmerizing sight, a woman stands by the Detroit River, deeply engrossed in meditation. The veil's fluid movements complement the serene atmosphere by the river, creating a picturesque moment of tranquility and beauty.

The woman's contemplative stance against the backdrop of the Detroit River adds a sense of peaceful reflection to the scene. As she observes the flowing waters, her connection to nature and the surroundings is palpable. The veil's vivid hues enhance the visual impact, symbolizing a blend of grace and strength that resonates with the woman's meditative state.

  • Fringed, weaving on canvas board, mounted in a wood frame, 8”x8” , Leslie Harper-Reid

Using bright colours in my artwork has evolved over the last few years. Whether it be painting, printing, or weaving, the need to incorporate fuchsia, turquoise and other stand out colours is a must for me. “Fringed” is a myriad of interesting textures and bright colours, all joining and working together to allow a feeling of happiness and curiosity.

  • Canadian Summer #3, mixed media on  canvas, 24”x16”, Marian Drouillard

Hot and sunny in Quebec and Ontario, but burning hot going west. Wildfires across Alberta and British Columbia, and looking north, the Northern Lights bring back a sense of awe and wonder! - Marian Drouillard

  • Mom’s Irises II, watercolour on paper, 8" x 10", Anna Buckie

These were painted from the photographs my mom sent me. My mom lives in Ukraine. Her neighbour gave the beautiful bouquet of irises with great variety of colours and shapes. My mom was so happy admiring these beautiful flowers. I wanted to preserve this moment of her happiness.  - Anna Buckie

  • Orange Vase , ink pencils on 8”x8” illustration paper, Marian Drouillard

This smaller illustration at 8”x8”, was created as an entry into my Daily Art Journal; the date shown is Apr 13, 2024.

As most work found in this sketch pad, I used my new favourite, Derwent Ink Pencils. I love them because the colours are as brilliant and rich as the Alcohol Ink I had been using, yet made liquid by using a brush dipped in water. I had no plan at all when creating it, but I did want it to resemble a collage.

  • Colourful Dutch Architecture Curacao - Caribbean Island, digital photography, Lupita Amaya G.

This Caribbean City is a vibrant hub of colors, exuding a bold and lively atmosphere. From the bright facades of the buildings to the colorful street markets, the city is a feast for the eyes.

The architecture showcases a mix of bold & bright hues, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region. Visitors are greeted with a kaleidoscope of colors at every turn, creating a unique and

unforgettable experience in this lively urban landscape.

  • Tropical Lush, acrylic marker on canvas, 16”x16” , Leslie Harper-Reid

A fondness for fuchsia, turquoise, and botanical motifs combine to create a feeling of growth and abundance. A photograph that I had taken was cropped and edited to reflect my love of bright colours and need for a structured composition. The simplified shapes of colour in the work were completed using acrylic markers. Smudging and blending before the colours dried and using lines to create definition and texture.

  • Mom’s Irises I, watercolour on paper, 8”x10”, Anna Buckie

  • How it All Began, mixed media on wood board 22.5”x20”, Marian Drouillard

This Mixed Media on wood board is 22.5”x20”, and was created using Alcohol Ink as an abstract background, followed by layers of colourful papers that I painted, ripped and pasted to add to additional layers of tissue papers.

Black acrylic paint was added to create more definition to the overall image and to create the shape of a stylized bird, a creature that has been sneaking into my work more and more these days.

I have yet to understand why I am suddenly smitten with birds, but it may have something to do with feeling more free. We’ll see…

  • Botanical Explosion 3, acrylic on canvas 12”x12” , Leslie Harper-Reid

Using botanical, organic and geometric shapes are elements that I enjoy combining in my art. This abstracted floral botanical incorporates lines, shapes, colours, pattern and movement to allow a journey of visual discovery.
