Hanging By A Thread in Sicily

Alcohol Ink, Acrylic Ink, Acrylic Paint, Papers, 12”x 31.5” Repurposed Canvas

When I was an early teen I learned that my natural father came to Canada from Sicily. Sadly, the truth is he was a part of our lives for less than 3 years.

Over the years I would fantasize about what Sicily must have looked like in the 1950’s, how it felt to leave his family and begin a new life, and hoped to experience the serenity of accepting I would never hear his stories about it myself.

In August 2025, I had the opportunity to introduce my daughter, son-in-law and teen grandsons to the Mediterranean on a cruise. One day in Syracuse, Sicily.

On a boat ride we witnessed the ancient city from the water, and I imagined my father telling my mother tales of his memories growing up on this beautiful island that almost touches Italy. In my mind I pretended my mother saw in her mind what I saw with my eyes that day. I finally felt at peace.

    Chrysalis

Mixed Media (acrylic paint, fabric, photography, conte crayon, marker) on paper 22” by 30”, 2026

Chrysalis is a mixed media exploration of transformation inspired by the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. Suspended between vulnerability and emergence, the chrysalis becomes a metaphor for personal, communal, and ecological change. Through layered textures, I reflect on the quiet, unseen work of becoming. Like the Monarch within its fragile casing, we move through uncertainty toward renewal — transformation not as an ending, but as a hopeful passage toward flight.

    Roots Beneath, Wings Within

    Digital Photography

Even as it fades, the tulip rises in form and spirit. Its delicate curves suggest wings, while its stem remains firmly rooted—a portrait of transformation.

    Porth Wen Brickworks Wales

    Watercolour on Paper

Porth Wen Brickworks Wales, UK is an incredible insight into the methods of past brickmaking. The importance of the location pertaining to soil and water as well as being set away from the general population, gives this site a wonderful sense of awe. The old kilns, smoke stacks and office building gives a good understandings of the workings of the yard. I was very fortunate to be able to walk the grounds and experience the site, it fills me with wonder.
