Laurel Storey, CZT - Visual Artist, Certified Zentangle Teacher

Laurel is a relative newcomer to Windsor, having moved across the country in 2011 from Victoria, BC to make a home for herself in vibrant Walkerville where she lives, works, and creates.

Laurel fervently believes that everyone is creative in some way or another – we just need to find an outlet (or two, or three!) in which to practice and nurture our creativity. Writing is Laurel’s first and forever creative love, taking shape in the form of journals, poetry, stories, articles, and blogs. Throughout her own lifelong process of exploration and discovery in the world of visual art, she has tried a bit of everything from painting to fibre arts to jewellery making, most recently and passionately focusing on Zentangle®.

The Zentangle Method, created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Laurel stumbled across the wonderful world of Zentangle one serendipitous day in June 2013, and it was love at first sight. She was immediately captivated by the simplicity of tangle patterns and complex beauty of completed art pieces, and knew she had to begin learning this creative process herself.

After practicing the art form for several years on her own, Laurel traveled to Providence, RI to complete her training with the Zentangle founders, and became the first CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher) in Windsor. She began teaching the Zentangle Method in the summer of 2016, and has offered both public and privately-scheduled classes to the Windsor-Essex community ever since. In recent years she has also expanded her reach by offering online classes, which have attracted a worldwide audience of Zentangle enthusiasts.

Laurel is proud to be an active participant at Walkerville Artists Collective (WAC), where she has been a Member Artist since 2017 and served on the Board of Directors since 2018. Her juried media currently on display in the WAC gallery include Zentangle-Inspired Art as well as photography.
